We invite you to become a member of our congregation - allowing God into your life through our various programs and community outreach efforts. Our congregation is Prince of Life Lutheran Church in Oregon City, OR. Don't let the name Lutheran scare you away. We welcome all.

Our congregation is a loving fellowship whose members support each other and also reach out to the community to meet many of the needs of the community. We invite you to join us as we reach out to others and serve each other through prayer and action. (www.princeoflife.org)

However, should you wish to join another fellowship in our community or do not live near Oregon City, we encourage you to visit other congregations and select the one who welcomes you and makes you feel at home as well as equips you through training to serve others.

In our community we have an inter-denominational partnership of congregations identified as Love INC which stands for "Love in the name of Christ". Through the many congregations of LoveINC the poor and disadvantaged of our communities are served. You may want to check out this partnership and the congregations who are members through their web site: clackamasloveinc.org

Random Acts of Kindness
from the messages of Adrian Rogers BIBLE MEDITATION:
Luke 6:35 - "But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great."

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
I've seen bumper stickers that exhort us to "show random acts of kindness." I think that’s a good thing. And what is kindness? It's love in the little things. A woman came down the aisle of a church to give her heart to Christ, and the preacher wanted to know what had impacted her life for Christ. She said, "You did." The pastor said, "Well, I'd be interested to know what it was that I said that brought you to Christ." She said, "It was nothing you said. It was something you did. I was standing nearby when somebody criticized you very unfairly. I saw the kindness with which you responded, and I knew that your faith was real."

ACTION POINT:
What random act of kindness can you do today that will demonstrate that your faith is real?
Isn't it wonderful when a stranger is there when YOU need help!

When I help someone out all I say is "pass it on!" Love is contagious!

SOME EXAMPLES:

Recently I took a trip from Oregon City to Lake Tahoe. I stopped at almost every rest stop along the way. I had my business cards in my pocket and was wearing my WE CARE ABOUT YOU hat and T shirt.

At each rest stop there was someone who was in need and had prepared a simple sign stating their need. Each time I went up to the indiividual, couple, or family in need and engaged them in conversation to explore their needs and to make my own assessment of the genuiness of their need.  Here are some examples of the needs and my responses.

A middle aged couple had not eaten that day and was out of money and gasoline. They could not find work in the Portland area and were on their way back to Nevada.  I prepared them sandwiches, gave them my card, and asked that they do the same for others in need when they got back on their feet. They were truly hungry and grateful for the sandwiches and fruit that i gave them. They promised to pass it on.

At the next rest stop I encountered a young man who had a similar story and was on his way back to California. Someone had provided him food and a few dollars earlier in the day but he needed gasoline. So, I invited him to follow me south to a service station where I would fill his tank with gasoline. The condition I placed on the offer was that he do the same for someone else when he got home and had the money to do so. He gratefully accepted my offer. I handed him my card and told him to follow me. He did. I filled his tank as well as my own and he was obviously very grateful. He thanked me several times and the joy in his face confirmed the genuiness of his appreciation. The gas station service attendant made the remark that the world needed more of this. I am convinced that he will follow through and extend a helping hand to others.

At my next stop in Ashland there were two young women sitting along the side of the freeway exit road with a sign saying they needed help getting home. Our conversation revealed that they had come to Ashland to visit friends who were enrolled in the university and to determine if they wanted to enroll in the same university. They had spent all their money to purchase a tire to replace their blown out tire. They needed gasoline to take them back north to Portland.I filled their tank with gasoline and mine at the same time and they promised to do the same for others when they reached home. I am sure they will.  I could see it in their eyes.  The gasoline attendant was amazed. I felt good and know that the world will be a little better because they would pass it on to others in need.

I had other encounters and experiences. Some bad, but mostly good. The bad were those who were obviously on drugs or alcohol. They were only interested in money; not food or transportation.  I do not give money.  I do not knowingly support addictions. I do however attempt to engage the individuals in conversation.

GIVE IT A TRY

I suggest that you give it a try.  Random acts of kindness do bear good fruit. They do make our communities better.

I believe that in many places in our country we have lost the sense of community. It does "take a village to raise a child" and it does take real community to solve local problems and to share the wealth. To rebuild our country so that it is a better place for our children and grandchildren we must foster community in every way we can.

Those without hope need community to restore their hope. Those without community need the love that comes from community. Without hope we die.  Without love we cease to be human. Love is contagious. Pass it on!  Pass it forward!

May God Richly Bless You and help you lead a life that will give hope, comfort, peace, and love to those with whom you come into contact in your daily life.
